◉ 043 | Why we do what we do the way we do

Easter holidays.

A little girl enters the kitchen.

Her mum is there,

preparing

a leg ham.

Mum cuts off the front,

cuts off the back,

and places it in the pot.

“Why do you

cut off the front,

cut off the back,

before you cook it?”

asks the girl.

Mum pauses.

“I don’t know.

That’s how my mum

taught me.”

The girl walks to her grandma.

“Why do you

cut off the front,

cut off the back,

before cooking a leg ham?”

Grandma pauses too.

“I don’t know.

That’s how my mum

taught me.”

The girl walks to her great-grandma.

“Hey, Great-Grandma…

Why do Mum and Grandma

cut off the front,

cut off the back,

before cooking a leg ham?”

Great-Grandma smiles.

“I don’t know,

love.

Back then,

I just didn’t have

a bigger pot.”
