Mum would grate

apples and carrots

and mix them

in a large bowl.

She'd draw a line

across the top

and give us two spoons.

"Half-half.

Now eat."

I would always

pick the larger side.

And finish first.

Then I'd beg

my sister

for more.

"No."

"Please."

"No.

You ate yours."

I'd make

a sad face.

"Alright, alright."

And she'd push

a little more

onto my side.
