◉ 058 | I don’t lie. Until I do.

I got fired.

The boss,

now ex-boss,

told me

not to

come to work

tomorrow.

Then she told me

to leave

straight away.

It was

game over.

Amongst

other shit,

I was

too honest.

I came home

unusually early.

It was noon.

I took

my real-estate clothes

off,

put my home-only

trackies

on,

and lay down

on the couch.

I felt free

knowing

I didn’t have

to go there

tomorrow.

But the mortgage

was already

heavy.

And I was

getting married

in a month.

Fuck.

Maja came home

surprised

I was there.

“What are you doing

at home?”

she asked.

“I quit,”

I said.

“What did you do?”

“I quit,”

I said.

I don’t lie.

Until I do.

We married

a month later.

Years later,

I told Maja

the truth.

That I actually

got fired

from that job.

That hurt

something

between us.

But I hurt

myself

even more.
